Hi, I'm Ren Young,

About Me

Hi! I'm Ren Young, a graduate from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in computer science, where I earned a 4.0 GPA.
I'm passionate about coding and collaborative problem-solving. During my time as a horticulture research intern, I worked with a team of fellow undergraduates and graduates. Together, we researched corn stalk breakage, where my software development work with Python and machine learning enabled real-time image analysis.
For my last two years in college, I was a lab instructor in the University of Kentucky's computer science department. Guiding students through their introduction to computer science, I've not only facilitated hands-on programming experiences but also played a key role in refining their skills through comprehensive feedback and thoughtful guidance. Alongside the rest of the instructor team, I discussed options for enhancing the learning journey for our students.
My experiences extend to agile teamwork, having collaborated on notable projects during senior design classes. One project involved crafting a dungeon crawl roguelike game in Python. I kept my team organized while in the process of strategizing, delegating tasks, and achieving our collective vision.
More recently, in collaboration with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy©, my team and I embarked on a new project. We conceptualized, designed, and brought to life a mobile game aimed at refining pharmacists' expertise. During this journey, we fostered a culture of collaboration, maintaining regular discussions and refining documentation. I took on a role in coding the project using C# within the Unity game engine, allowing us to bring our creative vision to life. Alongside coding, my contribution centered on effective task management, cultivating teamwork, and ensuring progress toward realizing our objectives.
As an enthusiastic learner, agile practitioner, and technology enthusiast, I am excited to contribute my skills, experience, and collaborative spirit to innovative projects and teams. Let's connect and explore how we can create impactful solutions together

Projects

Play as a little robot trying to clean up the factory you wake up in. Along the way uncover the mystery of how the factory got to such a state. See below for the Github page link. Note: There is a known issue with the movement of the robot. If you get stuck on a rock, rotate until you are fully facing away.

Play as a young witch who has been sent on your first mission. You arrive in a field after hearing about something scary happening in a nearby village. Find the ingredients to make potions that will help you access new surrounding areas, and eventually unlock the mysterious caverns. See below for the Github page link.

Demo
Unity C# 2D

Senior design project. Worked with The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) to create educational and fun game for pharmacists to obtain Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits. Created an app that simulated a pharmacy, with two mini-games for studying unit conversions. One was a swipe to match style game, and the other was a catch falling objects game. Demo not freely available because of legal agreements.

Unity C# Mobile App 2D Team Jira

Group project for CS 498 class, which is a preparation class for Senior Design. Created game based around dungeon exploration, with object collection, fighting, enemies, and a connected storyline. See below for the Github page link.
